Cliffs of Moher

Visit Ireland - See the Sights of Ireland, Cliffs of MoherThe Cliffs of Moher are described as one of the natural wonders of the world and are probably  Ireland’s top visitor attraction. The area is a designated UNESCO Geo Park. The Cliffs rise from the Atlantic ocean at a height of  214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over  on the western coastline of County Clare.  O’Brien’s Tower stands prominently on a headland of the majestic Cliffs overlooking the ocean. From the Cliffs of Moher you can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay,  the Twelve Pins  mountains, the Maum Turk mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. If you prefer to take in a full view of the cliffs – there are boating companies that depart daily from Doolin Pier When you visit Ireland, they need to be seen!

The Cliffs  are a haven for wildlife and are home to one of the major colonies of cliff nesting seabirds in Ireland. The area was designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds under the EU Birds Directive in 1986 and as a Refuge for Fauna in 1988.
